The line of totality for the Solar Eclipse on August 11 1999 at 11.11 hrs hits land first in South West cornwall. The last total eclipse in Britain was at the beginning of this century and another will not take place until the end of the next. To mark this extraordinary event St. Ives International presents As Dark As Light, a programme of contemporary arts events. Internationally renowned artists have been commissioned to make new works in response to the historic moment of the eclipse and to the specific geography and history of the area. Cornwall is the only place to be this summer. |
