National Coastwatch Institution Station
Polruan By Fowey
Covering east to the Eddystone lighthouse and west to The Lizard

Polruan Coastwatch station is situated at 50 19.6N and 004 38.1W.

It has the most beautiful position looking out over the open sea to the South and over the Fowey harbour and estuary to the North. On a clear day the Eddystone lighthouse can be seen to the East and the Lizard peninsula to the West. The South West Coast Path passes right in front of the station and apart from logging the shipping, the watchkeepers also monitor the walkers.

Next to the lookout are the remains of the 13th century St Saviours Chapel which has been used as a day mark for mariners throughout the centuries past. To the North West is the day mark on Gribben Head a very imposing somewhat gothic structure, which the National Trust opens to the public from time to time.
