NCI Stations - going from the north west to the south east of the Cornish Coast. The UK's largest regional coastline.

National Coastwatch Institution Station
Gwennap Head

Watckeeper on the day. A few hours earlier Frank was contacting Destination Cornwall with the real weather situation from this part of Cornwall.

Then a film crew turn up followed by the man behind the camera which took these photos.

The watch duty is meticulously carried out despite these distractions. Fewer people visit the station on a bad day when a gale is blowing severely and the sea is boiling. Thank you to Frank and the team of watchkeepers who staff the station year round.

Jean said she will return to watch keeping at Gwennap Head before too long, possibly. Her excellent wildlife observations are missed.

Watch keepers are different and diverse and come in all shapes and sizes.

This is one of those moments when you turn up and something other than the watch keeping is going on.

Jean (pictured) was a regular watchkeeper at Gwennap and always gave great information about wildlife in the area. She is pictured here while filming with a BBC2 televison crew - a wildlife programme relating to Cornwall - to be released either this winter or next.
